Another Update from George

George just contacted me…he seems to be in better spirits than he was last night. When I asked him how he was doing, his reply was a familiar…

STARVING!

It’s not like I don’t hear him utter those very words Every. Single. Day. 😉

He seems to have found some more pizza and coke!

George is still with Jeremy and he’s reporting that they are thick as thieves. It’s nice to know he’s not out there all alone. They are 39 miles from the finish, in Belle Plaine.

I will update again as soon as I hear from him…thanks for checking in!

Checkpoint #3

George just got into checkpoint #3 in Traer. He says that he’s cold, tired and hurting. He’s still with Jeremy and they were riders 9 and 10 to check in. Apparently his earlier proclamation bears repeating…

Iowa is not flat, honey!

He’s eating cold pizza and heading out soon.

Feeling a little guilty that I get to go crawl into a warm bed now while he’s out there suffering!

No news is good news?

That’s what I’m going on right now. I haven’t heard from George since Le Grand, but he did post a sunset pic a couple of hours later. 🙂 I was just checking Guitar Ted’s audio blog which is now up and running and he’s reporting 31 DNF’s out of the 52 starters. WOW. Hoping for an update soon from George and will post as soon as I hear from him.

Update from George

I just got a call from George a minute ago and he is about 25 miles out from the second checkpoint. He has no cell coverage, but one of the other racers allowed him to use his phone as they were walking one of the “B” roads. His quote of the day…

Iowa is NOT flat, honey!

Hoping that either he gets some coverage or that he can give me another call to update. If you’ve been trying to follow Guitar Ted’s audio blogs, they seem to be on the fritz for now, unfortunately.
