My friend, Daniel, passed me the link to Montana Timing for the preliminary results, here. Looks like only 11 Double Century Riders finished. Now that I’m home it’s back to life back to reality 😉 (who remembers that tune?) I will get a report together soon. Thank you for all your comments they are very much appreciated.

Hey brother thanks for chiming in. I had a hell of a time out there. It was so freakin’ windy. The wind was so strong even drafting didn’t help. I mean seriously! Thanks for kicking my ass during the “off-season”. You challenging me made me a better cyclist…thank you!

I rode the 100 and it was very difficult. It took me over twelve hours to complete it! The fact that you were able to ride twice the distance in 13:44 is remarkable.
Wind is an invisible force that grates against one’s psyche. It’s an unpredictable and variable beast. Now I know why it’s so depleting: I can’t see it. I don’t know how it’s going to act and I never know when it will begin or stop.
Wind’s mantra: “Wear and tear. Wear and tear.”
Give me a mountain any day!

I was hoping to see you out there. Good job on finishing the 100. Trust me it wasn’t easy to do the double. I suffered and had many second thoughts about continuing on. But there is a certain amount of motivation that you get knowing you are off-the-front. So my goal became not getting caught. That’s all nothing elaborate — just don’t get caught.
I hate headwinds and I train in them to not hate them. Make room on that mountain because i’d rather be climbing it than riding in a headwind.
I’m glad you are feeling well enough to ride. Let me know how your surgery goes …which is really soon if I remember.

George, I believe you blew past me around my mile 95, your mi 145. I was amazed. You are a machine!
This was my first organized event ever and I’d been reading your past ride reports just to see what I was in for. I have to say, I was not prepared for that wind.
Anyway, I gotta give you respect for your performance out there in those conditions.

Thank you for the kind words. Honestly, I just wanted to get it done and eat some Chicken Adobo provided by the Adobo Velo group lol! It was a hard ride and the winds were ridiculous. Life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get. Don’t be discouraged not all events are like this one. Death Valley has freaky weather and you never know what to expect. Next year you’ll come out and it will be a beautiful day to ride — you know– Sunday was a gorgeous morning.

I came across your blog probably from the AC website, which said you were some nut that posted great ride reports complete with power analysis. I’m working on a 3d PC trainer program for bike training (http://jmtc.ls1howto.com) and also doing 2 AC rides, so it was a no brainer to click on the link to your site.
Anyway, I bike by Bike Religion all the time (I often come down the SART and do the upper bay loop once or twice and then head back up to orange). Had no idea that was your place, I’ll stop in one of these days.
